12 days to the madness

This is my fourth try at NaNoWriMo, mostly borne out of Shirlene’s prodding and my own restless, insatiable desire to start creative writing again, as I do plenty enough non-creative writing at my job.

I’d like to say I know what I’m doing, but aside from a prettily-worded synopsis and some vague ideas, I haven’t the slightest idea! I am told, however, that this is part of the fun.

The ambitious plan for now is to hit 2000 words a day, give or take (taking into account the fact I am going on holiday for the last week of November). I have had enough experience with NaNo to know that this is likely going to be 50 decent words and 1950 words of waffle… so I doubt I will be posting all of it here as I go along, but expect snippets and regular wordcount updates!

Margaret Morrissey, of the Parents Outloud campaign group, said the decision to keep thousands of schools shut for a second day sent the wrong signals to children.

She added: “We are giving children the message that when things get difficult you should just stay at home and have fun.”

sometimes, americans do make more sense!

  • Mander: So I always thought that when you Brits say "I can't be arsed", you were saying "can't be ASKED"; you know, like you're really busy and so you can't be asked to do something, and I said it to a professor one day, it was so embarrassing!
  • Rich: You mean you don't say that in America? I can't be arsed to do this and that?
  • Mander: No! Of course not! What does your ass have to do with anything?

  • My brother: Who is our prime minister now?
  • Me: Lee Hsien Loong.
  • Daddy (at the same time): Kevin Rudd.
